The U.S. Army will declare new limitations on body art designs in a forth-coming upgrade to guidelines on the appearance of military.

Sgt. Maj. of the Army Raymond Tempe verified to Celebrities and Lines over the few days that ink noticeable below the hands or feet, as well as body art designs noticeable above the throat, will soon be prohibited for military. Current body art designs in those areas may be grandfathered in, however.

The changes are set to be declared in an upgrade to Army Control 670-1 to Army Tattoo, which already prevents body art designs anywhere on the head, throat and face above the class A consistent receiver. Army Control 670-1 also contains a ban on ink that is considered extremist, indecent, prejudiced or improper. Those limitations will remain in position is Army Tattoo.

The new guidelines will allegedly lay out a process by which military can meet with their unit management and "self identify" their body art designs. Tempe told Celebrities and Lines that military will be responsible for protecting the cost to eliminate any ink that goes against the new ban. Under the previous edition of Army Control 670-1, commanders were prohibited to order the elimination of a body art or brand. They were, however, expected to seek advice from with military about potential offenses and inform them of surgical procedures for possible elimination.

Chandler said over the few days that the new guidelines are looking forward to trademark by the assistant, and that they could be formally in position within the next 30 to 60 days.

A community on Army.com shows the popularity of body art designs on the feet or hands. While that ink may be exempt from the new guidelines, military looking to get new body art designs may run into issues when the guidelines are modified.
